China's National Health Commission releases 50 new national food safety standards

According to the provisions of the Food Safety Law, the National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued Announcement No. 2 of 2025, announcing 50 new national food safety standards and 9 amendments. They mainly include: 2 food labeling standards such as "General Rules for Pre-packaged Food Labeling", 3 special dietary food standards such as "Infant Cereal Complementary Food", 4 food product standards such as "Fermented Milk", 3 production and operation standard standards such as "Sanitary Standards for the Production of Modified Meat Products", 1 food-related product standard "Disinfectant", 4 food nutrient fortifiers such as "Food Nutrition Fortifier Sodium Ferric Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid", 4 food additives such as "Food Additive Lutein", 29 inspection method standards such as "Determination of Antimony in Food", and 9 amendments such as "Sterilized Milk".
The "General Rules for Pre-packaged Food Labeling" announced this time adds the marking requirements for digital labels, effectively realizing the functions of "audible", "playable" and "enlargeable" of food label information, and effectively improving the experience of consumers reading labels and the effectiveness of enterprises in conveying food-related information through labels. The General Rules for Nutrition Labeling of Prepackaged Foods aims to promote nutrition and health and safeguard consumer rights, and optimizes the requirements for nutrition labeling. The General Rules for Special Medical Purpose Infant Formula Foods improves the requirements for nutrient content, adds six major product categories such as fat metabolism abnormalities formula, and provides precise nutritional support for infants with special medical conditions. The standards for Cereal Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children and Canned Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children expand product categories, adjust nutrient content indicators and energy supply ratio of added sugars, and better meet the nutritional and health needs of infants and young children. The Disinfectant Standard adds requirements such as principles and methods of use to ensure the disinfection effect while ensuring safety of use. Amendment No. 1 of Sterilized Milk clarifies the requirement to no longer use reconstituted milk to produce sterilized milk. 29 test method standards such as Determination of Antimony in Foods further improve the standard system of physical, chemical and microbiological test methods.
